The Urban MonkProject
Somewhere between monastic quietude and the brimming over of café life
we are looking, in new languages for things that have always been true;
joy, learning, friendship and peace. Circumstances change but the fundamental question remains the same. What is the life, well lived?
We don’t lack for information. Unified theories fall short and divide us. Truth teachings are boundless, wisdom is found in all cultures and faith traditions, in the ground and trees, water and air that nourish us. But how do we cultivate it? How do we apply it to our personal lives? How do we make accessible and relevant the many diverse strands of compassionate human understanding in ways that are collaborative, innovative and adaptive?
The Urban Monk Project is one response, a motif in the human symphony of yearning for the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible.
Marc Anderson is the founder and director of The Urban Monk Project. Marc is a musician, teacher, poet, world-traveler and an ordained Buddhist priest in the Soto Zen lineage. With the help of many generous people and organizations Marc plans and facilitates the Urban Monk Project.
